"The Weddings of Isabel" Teruel
Every year, the legend of the Lovers of Teruel is revived on the streets of the city. The town undergoes a transformation as the people of Teruel go back to the 13th century, wearing period costumes to recreate the society in which this tragic and beautiful love story unfolded.
The Weddings of Isabel
"The Weddings of Isabel" (also known as "The Lovers of Teruel") are festivities that take place in the city of Teruel, typically in February. These festivities reenact the love story of two young individuals, Diego and Isabel, who pledged eternal love to each other and were buried together after enduring various calamities.
For a couple of days, the streets of Teruel transform into a medieval setting, where scenes from the legend of the Lovers of Teruel are recreated. The historic center of Toledo is turned into a medieval village, complete with a large medieval market surrounded by bonfires and filled with dancers, artisans, and musicians. Simultaneously, the story of the lovers is performed.
