Isla Tabarca & Santa Pola
Tabarca Island is situated off the coast of Alicante, near the cape of Santa Pola. In the past, the coasts of this island provided refuge for Barbary pirates. In the 18th century, King Charles III commissioned the construction of a village to house families of fishermen from Genoa, who were prisoners in the city of Tabarka. Since then, the island has been inhabited by Genoese people, making it possible to visit even today.
Enjoy the island's natural beauty, including its impressive coves and crystal-clear waters, ideal for snorkelling. Explore the "savage" part of the island, where you can find the lighthouse. Lose yourself in the narrow streets of the fishing village, characterized by white and blue or coloured houses, and savour its rich gastronomy, such as the Tabarquian caldero (stew) and seafood.
