Forat de Bernia
If you enjoy hiking and witnessing breathtaking landscapes, you must not miss the spectacular Ruta del Forat de Bèrnia. This route includes a tunnel that allows you to traverse the Sierra de Bernia mountain range, which stretches along the Mediterranean coast and offers a variety of natural environments and stunning panoramic views.
The Fort of Bernia is situated at the base of the Bernia crests. It was constructed by order of King Philip II in 1592 to defend the coast against Ottoman attacks. In 1612, the king ordered its demolition to prevent its use by Moorish rebels. Today, you can still observe small cave paintings, arches, a moat, a bastion, a cistern, and remnants of the walls.
During this excursion, you will not only explore the tunnel but also visit the Fort de Bèrnia, an important site of our cultural heritage.
With its moderate level of difficulty and all these remarkable features, this excursion is a must-do in the province.
